Audio sounds muffled on ROG zeph m16 (2023)

Hi, Im new to NixOS so not sure what information would be needed to assist me in debugging this.

I have a rog zephyrus m16 (2023) with a fresh install of NixOS and the following specs

I previously have been running Arch on this laptop with no issues but wanted to try out Nix. The audio is muffled and small. I’ve tried some of the other solutions on the interwebs with no results; pavucontrol and easyeffect. I suspect it to be a issue with the realtek audio driver on the linux kernel but am pretty stuck.

This is how I have my audio set up in the config file:

im also getting this driver error but not sure how to fix it:

this seems pretty comprehensive but not sure how it would translate to Nix:

The Analog Surround 4.0 output audio profile outputs no sound in KDE plasma if thats any relevance.

Did you search the web for these errors?

yeah, not sure how this translates to nix:

Quite some work, it seems. But if there’s a distro in which this would be easy to do, it’d be NixOS. And you’d get to keep it and share it, if you get it right.

I’d start with the BIOS part. Perhaps by now an upstream BIOS update has been released?

Before you go down the rabbit hole of trying to build your own kernel, have you taken a look at GitHub - NixOS/nixos-hardware: A collection of NixOS modules covering hardware quirks. to see if your issue is addressed there?

I have not seen this, I will try it out.

Thanks!
